December 2021

 End-of-the-year Getaway

December 2021

The year is coming to an end and we were fortunate enough to take three road trips this past year and several weekend camping trips.  Unseasonably warm weather between Christmas and New Year's lured us to a state park not far from Houston.  We spent two days in and around Austin County, Texas, and did a little hiking and geocaching, cooking over campfires, and cruising back roads.   Here is a sample of what we saw.

Seen along a trail in Stephen F. Austin State Park.  We encountered a dozen deer along the way, but
they sprinted away before I could get photos.

Note:  We graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches
in East Texas.

Bellville, Texas

We stopped here for a geocache titled "Kiddie Ghost Town" and wish we knew the backstory
for this location.

Each "building" represented a location with murals and manikins.

Here is Brian frisking the prisoner in his jail cell to find the geocache.

We visited a nearby county to see murals in Brenham, home of Blue Bell Ice Cream.

There is the cache

As we look forward to 2022, we hope to finally make our dream road trip to Alaska that we have
had to postpone twice in the past few years.   Family campouts in Texas state parks have already
been planned for March and April.

Happy New Year to All!
